KL ARCHDIOCESAN
CATECHETICAL CENTRE
INTRODUCTION
The Archdiocesan Catechetical Centre has been supporting the catechetical ministries of Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur since its establishment in 2018. The Centre has focused on encouraging the growth of these ministries through formation, networking, accompaniment and administrative support.

The Centre now functions with three full-time staff, who work actively to serve the needs of all catechists, coordinators and facilitators who contribute to the work of catechesis.

Vision:
To assist and accompany children, teenagers and adults to develop and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and the Christian community, and to help them integrate knowledge of the Catholic faith with the development of practical skills for living the faith in today’s world.

To assist parish Catechetical Coordinators through formation, meetings, personal accompaniment, and with administrative, as well as, other forms of support in their task of coordinating and animating the catechetical ministry in the community.

To assist catechists through formation programmes, catechetical resources, accompaniment and with other forms of support in their task of imparting the core content of the Catholic faith in a systematic, on-going and holistic manner to the learners under their care.
To identify, form and accompany committed lay Catholics who are capable and dedicated to become lay catechetical formators at the level of the parish and diocese.

Director
Dr. Steven Selvaraju
Dr. Steven Selvaraju, STL, STD, holds a Licentiate (2001) and Doctorate (2003) in Theology with Specialisation in Catechetics and Youth Ministry. He has served as Director, Penang Diocesan Pastoral Institute, Diocese of Penang (2013-2017) and Director, Archdiocesan Pastoral Institute, Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur (2018- 2021). He presently serves as Director, Archdiocesan Catechetical Centre. He is married to Cynthia.

Resource and Formation Facilitator
Stephanie Chia
Stephanie Chia has been part of the team at the Archdiocesan Catechetical Centre since February 2021. She completed her Pastoral Leadership Formation at the Institute of Formation Fondacio Asia in the Philippines in 2020 and had previously attained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Malaya (UM) and a Bachelor of Health Science (Hons) (Nursing) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
She had been actively serving as a catechist in her parish before discerning and choosing to enter the ministry full time. She now plays a leading role in several projects, including developing a pedagogical training program for catechists, online formation and resources, as well as other formative and administrative duties in support of the Archdiocesan Catechetical Ministry.

Pastoral Coordinator
Sr Retta Savariannan
Sr Retta joined the Canossian Daughters of Charity (FDCC) as a Novice in 1985 and made her first religious vows in Singapore in 1988.
She contributed to the pastoral efforts of the Sungai Siput community in Perak in a few years before continuing her studies at the Regina Mundi Pontifical Institute in Rome. Upon completing her Masters in Religious Science, Sr Retta returned to serve with the KL Archdiocesan Youth Centre in addition to serving as Provincial Counsellor for her religious order. In 2011, Sr Retta completed a second Masters in Formative Spirituality and Counselling with the Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram University, Bangalore.
Throughout her religious life, Sr Retta has spent much of her time working with and for the development of young people. She continues to live her passion for evangelisation through her work with the Archdiocesan Catechetical Centre, Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur since January 2019 to the present.
